| HI EVERYBODY EVERYBODY!!! LADEEDADEEDA!!! Gotta love the homestar. He is not as cool as strong bad of course. ANYWAY!!! I AM HYPER BECAUSE I HAD THE BEST WEEKEND!!! A couple friends came over and we made brownies with SKITTLES in them. They were pretty bad. We just had that idea about 2 years ago and we could not get it out of our heads. Now it is done! And we now know that skittles melt in the oven. AND that they add TEN TIMES the sugar flavor as the ENTIRE brownie. Sticky too.
So then we sang along with my The Sound Of Music sound track. THAT WAS FUN!!!
Then we watched old home movies of when we hung out when we were twelve. That was fun but embarassing cuz those videos are proof that I actually was MORE of a FREAK at some point.
We watched real movies too. Real and REALLY BAD. Mooch Goes To Holleywood which is a dog movie that has NO point other than to dress the dog up in REALY TERRIBLE costumes. It is narrated by Zsa Zsa Gabor. If you know who that is, it makes the movie SO MUCH MORE FUNNY. It's only funny cuz it's STUPID and easy to make fun of. We watched The Big Cat (REALLY CORNY 1930s movie. Also fun to make fun of.)
That was all last night. Then today we played Sims, but before that I discovered something. I LOVE TENNIS!!! I played it for the first time ever today and I WAS SOOO HORRIBLE AT IT!!! It was fun anyway!
So as you can see we do very abnormal things when we hang out. That's why I love hanging out with them!!
| Wow. I have not updated in SOOO long. And I said I would talk more about BNYC. I'm a bad blogger. Myspace has ruined me.
Well, there is still one thing about BNYC that is fresh in my mind. That is the power track week of seminars called "To The Ends Of Your Classroom". You know we're supposed to take the Gospel to the ends of the earth. The seminars were about how the USA is so diverse you can really do that in your own classroom (or if not classroom just in your daily life).*wants to turn on Toby Mac album Welcome To Diverse City* Now on campus at BNYC there were a lot of hispanic people working there and the speaker challenged us to talk to one of them and ask them a series of questions, eventually welcoming them to America. Here they are...
HOW TO BEGIN A CONVERSATION WITH AN INTERNATIONAL
You can start by saying that you noticed their accent. Ask them if you may ask them a few questions.
1. Where were you born? (If possible say something about their country. If you've never heard of their country, ask them where it is located).
2. How long have you been in America?
3. What family members are back in your country?
4. How often do you communicate with them?
5. How are they doing?
6. Are you married? Do you have any children?
7. What are some of the differences between your country and America?
8. Have you experienced any prejudice?
9. What needs do you have?
10. Has anyone said these words to you? "Welcome to America."
So I took this challenge. I was outside the girls dorms and a man was trimming the bushes and singing "Lord I Lift Your Name On High" in Spanish. It was beautiful and I told him I liked his song. We began talking while he did his work. His name was Jorge. He was born in El Salvador and had been in America 26 years (27 years now). None of his family members were still in El Salvador. He told me about the games they played in his country when he was a child. They made toys out of cans and sticks and stuff. I asked Jorge if he needed me to pray for anything. He asked me to pray that his family will stay together in the Lord (I guess if he told me, a stranger, it's okay that I tell you, so you can pray too.) Jorge never experienced any prejudice and he had been welcomed to America. I welcomed him again anyway.
When I walked away I know I was happier than I've been before and since. Honestly, if someone tells you serving God is what will make you happiest BELIEVE THEM. IT IS COMPLETELY TRUE!! So, even though I know that, I'm an idiot. I haven't done anything like that for God since. There are a lot of international people at my church, but I'm too afraid to talk to them (yeah you know I'm shy). Why was it so much easier at BNYC???
| I should write down the things I learned at BNYC. Of course I can't write them all in one entry. First of all I do want to know God's will for my life, but am afraid for various reasons. I want God's will for me to be blind beaf interpreter or something like that soooo much that I fear I'm blinding myself to what God want's. On the other hand if that is His plan I'm afraid I won't believe that it's not just my plan. That's crazy right? What I'm most afraid of is that He want's me to be a missionary to some jungle or something. I mean I won't eat half of american food, much less eating slugs in the middle of the jungle with bugs and malaria and EEEEEEK!!!!ness. Anyway I really needed Pastor Geier's message on Sunday. I have really been wondering how you know God's will, and now I know I need to draw close to God, and work to become more like Jesus while I wait for his answer. I will write more on other things I learned later. bye byes! | | |
| so my dog ran away monday night and freaked us all out. he took an all night swim in the creek and came back late tuesday morning all muddy and wet. i gave him a bath or actually a shower. last time i stuck him in the bathtub so he jumped out and rolled all over my bed. so this time i put him in the shower with the sliding door and removable flexible shower head thing. that worked better but the whole time he was scrunched into the corner of the shower trying to get as far away from the water as possible and whining. it was so sad. when i let him out he was shaking and running back and forth in the bathroom like he was nuts. that was funny.
ok so my whole life does not revolve around my dog. hmmm on wednesday i went to youth group. i hate basketball. especially when certain people won't stop throwing the basketball at me when i'm not even playing!!! lol!! not that those people will even read this. my life is boring. bye
